The lowest level of food that you can possibly put in your body is fast food. This is because it is usually fried, packed full of preservatives, and so full of salt and sugar that it’s a surprise your body can handle it. Many of them have the best motto, and that makes you think they aren’t bad. After all, Subway’s motto is “Eat fresh!”

This fast food is no stranger to controversy surrounding the quality and health claims of their food. This would probably be the best way to avoid further controversy, but, however, further research shows that Subway is still up to their old tricks.

However, there is a huge difference between the bread that comes out of your bread machine and what is served at Subway. Namely, Subway bread has an ingredients list that may as well be a mile long.

Many of these ingredients have bizarre names and seem like they should be nowhere near anything that goes into your mouth.Curious? This is just a sample of the ingredients found in the Italian bread at Subway:

  • Dough conditioners
  • Amylase
  • Sodium stearoyl-2-lactylate
  • Mineral oil
  • Wheat protein isolate

And no, you cannot skip these toxic ingredients just by passing on the white bread. The healthier options at Subway, such as the whole-wheat bread and the multi grain bread, seem to have even more additives and preservatives. The crazy ingredients don’t stop at bread.

The vegetables, which should be the safest part of your sandwich, are often injected with or soaked it in chemicals to maintain their brightness and make them look fresh for longer periods of time. Remember—the chemicals used on vegetables don’t actually keep them fresh.

They just make them look fresh so you’ll still spend money on them! The meat is expected to last and keep its taste for long periods of refrigeration. To reach these goals, Subway meats often have high levels of salt and other preservatives.


No amount of saved time is worth this. Even if cooking isn’t an option, you can spend a few minutes at the store and get all the ingredients you need for sub sandwiches. Even better, you can feel good knowing that you are using fresh ingredients, saving money, and avoiding the dangerous chemicals found in Subway.

Just when you think you have found a healthy fast food option, it seems like a new report comes out. Skip the fast food restaurants and do your own version at home.
