When I was growing up, whenever I had a cold, my mother was preparing me milk with turmeric. The mild heat of turmeric was worming my throat and strengthening my body. I often wished that I could drink this elixir every day during the winter. Now when the health benefits of turmeric are well known in the world, I was wondering why I don’t add turmeric in my drinks every day? – writes Tejal Patel.
Since I am a vegan, I no longer prefer the option with milk, but turmeric in warm water is equally effective and has become the main point of my morning routine.
If you are not familiar with the efficient effects of turmeric, let me remind you. Turmeric is a yellow-orange spice from India, part of the ginger family. In Ayurveda, turmeric is known as a powerful antioxidant that fights with carcinogenic free radicals, and it is also a. antiseptic and has natural anti-inflammatory effect.
Turmeric is very often used in Indian cuisine, but if you don’t eat Indian food every day, here’s a way how to include it in your every day nutrition. It is very simple. Add some lemon juice in a glass of warm water and spice it with turmeric. You can also add a pinch of cinnamon, which has anti-inflammatory properties and can also stabilize your blood sugar levels (what means that you will eat less, and feel full longer).
Morning Elixir – Warm Water with Lemon and Turmeric
1 cup of warm (not boiling) water; you can also use a cup of warm milk (almond, soy or cow milk)
¼ teaspoon of turmeric
Juice from ½ of lemon
A pinch of cinnamon (optional)
1/8 teaspoon honey
1 teaspoon coconut oil
After you heat up the water, add the turmeric, lemon juice, honey, and the coconut oil and mix everything well. The turmeric will fall on the bottom of the cup, so you should continue mixing the drink while you drink it, and in that way you will get all the benefits from turmeric. Make sure that you drink the water while is still hot.
