Have you heard about hyperpigmentation?
It’s a disorder whose symptoms are dark areas on the skin that are caused by large amount of melanin that is the skin’s dark pigment. The melanin disarrays can be caused from sun exposure, aging, some diseases, trauma or pregnancy, and all of them lead to appearing brown spots on the skin.
There are two factors that might cause hyperpigmentation: internal and external. The internal factors might be inbred. Those people with darker skin have more risk of evolving this disarray. The external factors are the ones that are surrounding us in the environment, such as the sun exposure or chemicals (estrogen, betaxolol, progesterone, minocycline, etc.).
Specks, stains and age- spots from the sun are a result of the dangerous ultraviolet rays from the sun, which damage the melanin and cause a transient or continuous discoloration. These stains might appear on any part of the body that has been exposed to the sun, but you can notice them more often on the face or on the hands.
Also, discoloration can be caused from the scars from a trauma or some surgery. The dark spots are going to remain even after the problem is gone.
The melasma is hyperpigmentation of the skin which appears during pregnancy, and sometimes it could occur to men too. It’s also known as a mask of pregnancy, since the brown spots are manifested on the face and very often at the cheeks and the nose. The brown spots are fading after the pregnancy.
