No-Cook Chocolate Pudding Loaded with Nutrients

Avocado pudding is nothing new, but until recently I had yet to lock-down a recipe for it that really blew my hair back!

If you’re not familiar, the ingredient that makes this pudding stand out is the use of avocados as the base for the pudding. Avocados have the perfect texture to form the base of a great pudding and their mild taste allows the other flavors to dominate the dish. Being high in fat, a good monounsaturated fat that is, the avocados make this Paleo dessert very filling and satisfying.

Avocado Oil Protects Cellular Mitochondria to Prevent Free Radical Damage and Aging

Many prior studies designed to investigate the impact of food based antioxidants on human health have been disappointing because most phytonutrients are unable to penetrate the mitochondrial power factories housed in each cell. Free radicals continue to damage the delicate mitochondria, causing energy production to stop and the cell to collapse and die.

Researchers from the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) have released the results of a study conducted with avocado oil to determine absorption by the mitochondria and subsequent neutralization of deadly free radicals. Avocado oil is highly resistant to oxidation, and has been shown to help neutralize the metabolic effects of iron, a primary cause of cellular oxidation.

Lead study design author, Dr. Christian Cortez-Rojo, noted that:

“Avocado oil causes accelerated respiration in mitochondria, which indicates that the use of nutrients for producing energy for cell functions remains effective even in cells attacked by free radicals and that mitochondria can produce little amounts of damaging free radicals.”

Avocados Can Balance Hormones

Avocados contain  plant sterols, such as beta-sitosterol, that have  antiestrogenic properties. They are able to block the estrogen receptors in our cells and reduce estrogen absorption rates. Thus. increasing progesterone levels in women and testosterone levels in men.

Most people don’t know that avocados have powerful anti-aging properties contained in both the flesh and the oil. Scientists have recently discovered that avocados possess potent anti-aging properties which protect against free radicals.

Health Benefits

Avocados are a great source of healthy raw fat, which is missing in many people today. They contain  around 20 essential nutrients which include:

  • Fiber
  • Potassium
  • Vitamin E
  • B-vitamins
  • Folic acid
  • Magnesium
  • Sodium
  • Iron
  • Calcium

In addition, avocados boost your body’s ability to absorb fat-soluble nutrients from other fruits and vegetables, such as alpha and beta-carotene and lutein.

Avocadene – a fatty alcohol

Avocado also contains a fatty alcohol or triol, called avocadene. Avocadene has a molecular structure of 16-heptadecene-1,2,4-triol. Avocadene has been shown to be antibacterial as well as anti-inflammatory.
